Nova Iguaçu Lança Campanha de Vacinação Antirrábica em Barão de Guandu

Resident of the Barão de Guandu neighborhood, situated in the Tinguá region, took advantage of the morning of this Wednesday (12) to vaccinate their dogs and cats against rabies. The initiative, organized by the Special Advisory for Animal Protection of the City Hall of Nova Iguaçu, successfully vaccinated around 90 animals. This endeavor aims to enhance the antirabies vaccination campaign, particularly targeting the rural areas of the municipality.

Regina Freitas, aged 69, utilized this chance to bring her five dogs for vaccination. During multiple trips between her residence and the vaccination site at the Nossa Senhora Aparecida Catholic Church, she expressed gratitude for the initiative aimed at safeguarding pets. “I find this action extremely significant, since many individuals cannot afford these vaccines,” she emphasized.

Flávia Santana, 48, also brought her five dogs for vaccination. In her view, the City Hall’s attention to the pets within the community is essential. “All efforts directed towards ensuring the health of animals are, above all, vital. I hope that the campaign persists,” she added.

The rabies vaccination effort will continue in both urban and rural regions of Nova Iguaçu. According to Marcelo Reis, the special advisor for Animal Protection, this action has been crucial for identifying areas with a higher concentration of animals and raising awareness among guardians about the significance of immunization. “Typically, rabies vaccinations are conducted annually in municipalities, but the City Hall provides a scheduling service on demand to extend its reach. This led to the conception of this pilot project, intending to broaden the campaign to additional neighborhoods, particularly the rural zones,” he pointed out.
